Surf Reports for Linda Mar (SMLM)

Tuesday 10am - Linda Mar, fair surfing

Long smooth knee-waist high waves this morning. Only a few spots working, plenty of waiting, and best to err on the side of foam, but nice shape and no closeouts. I got in some fun cruising rides. Waves slowed to nothing on the high tide.

Surprisingly fun out there this morning. Plenty of close-out sets, but more often than not, there was a shoulder/corner that would hold up. Fun in the WH-CH zone. Almost no wind -- but it wasn't too glassy. Fog seemed to be everywhere but here. We had the sun.

observed: the glare of the sun. Seemed especially glare-y this morning. Maybe I need a vitamin pill.

Yeah m.o.t.s.s. Skipped the crowd at that one spot and opted for swooping into (and sometimes out of) WH close-outs. Sorta worked every once and a while. Drifted further up into the punishment zone for some hair-raising, spine-tingling mega-close-out action (HH+ (and remember I'm a giant)). Why ask why?

The sun *almost* peeked through those dark clouds. No (or very little at least) rain at the beach. The wind came up a bit and there seemed to be a few corners that kinda-sorta worked as we got out.

Way-after-the-fact report... We went to a spot that wasn't totally closed-out. Found it uncrowded, but also found it plagued with ridiculous slow-motion traffic jams. I had to take my leash off to untangle TWICE. Paddled toward the close-outs and found a few dump-and-jump-ers. Gorgeous morning nonetheless. The offshore breeze brought some chilly water up to the top (or is it still just some chilly/germy runoff?).

observed: someone surfing atop my board. I know it's big, but c'mon.

Flat, pretty much like trying to surf a lake. Rare 1ft waves. (based on 6:45->8:15am)

Thursday 10am - Linda Mar, fair+ surfing

Not super consistent but there were some pretty clean lines ~2-3ft. A bit crowded but good times.

Hey that was pretty fun. Cleaner than it's been for a few days. WH-CH, steep, and fun though it helped to have a little extra foam. Sunny and light offshore. I was there a bit on the early-side and there were already plenty of people in the water, but there was enough to go around.

observed: a (sail-less) sailboard connected to the anklebone via a piece of rope

Sunny, not completely unsurfable. Also windy, short period, blown out and closing out. Had fun anyways.

@piss_shiver. I had the opposite experience at Lindy on the rising tide.
Best session for a long time way down by the shacks. You'd never have guessed from the lot.

Started off at SMOT...big, burly, ugly, sloppy, choppy, closed out. One friend from OZ suited up and freakin' BAILED. God that was funny. Walked to the beach, I went in, and somehow, he just turned around after getting to the water's edge. Gone. Borderline not fun, not even maintenance. Shrapnel is always laughable there, just need chopsticks to get at all the nori floating in the soup. Dunno why there's so much there. Anyway, then I went to Linda Mar, just in the DESPERATE hope that things were better. WRONG. Ultra craptastic. Got in, got "One Wave" with .a record of .02 seconds of facetime, and just came in. I looked at the sun, didn't even shower, got a bear claw at Donut Time, and headed to work. I'm stoked that I'm alive in the Great State of California, but grand scheme of things, that sucked. Back/shoulders are tinged with tightness, so that could be a precursor symptom to a flu that's coming on. A very poisonous @platypus indicated he was sick. This potential platypus ick could also be the overriding factor in my cantankerousness, regardless of the surf quality. Think I'm going to get an airborne and /or pop a few aspirins and hope it just goes away.

Didn't have the lungs or cojones for the beach this morning, but now I wish that I had. LM was CH-HH+ closeout bombs. Just exploding in about 10 inches of water. I think I got one thing that I might consider a 'ride' which consisted of me trying to drive on a high line and getting pitched onto my back.

Not completely un-stoked, but the stoke tank was definitely less than half full.
