“This is why you surf,” said Slater after winning the 2012 Quiksilver Pro. “To catch waves like this.”

Parading up the beach at La Graviere with the American flag draped over his right shoulder, Kelly Slater defeated Dane Reynolds in the finals of the 2012 Quiksilver Pro France, putting a 12th World Title closer within his grasp.

Although Slater has won nearly every accolade and competition in professional surfing, his victory at the Quiksilver Pro was actually his first at the event. With the win, Slater moves into second place (behind Joel Parkinson) and adds to his total of 51 Tour victories (and second consecutive win on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour).

"Now I think the pressure’s back on Mick. It was kind of a worst case scenario for Mick.”
Aaaaand cue the theme from Jaws.

Much as I'd like to see Parko get one...Kelly Slater, you are frickin' amazing. Go get #12.

Ahw f slater....yeah yeah yeah number one. Dane Reynolds is a lot more real of a person, and emits more of what surfing is all about. He's not a killing machine. He's a real person, and a true artist. Slater is simply an awesome athlete, perhaps super human. Doesn't cut it for me.

Any athelete over 40 that can still dominate his sport without using steriods is pretty amazing.

Agreed, he's amazing. It's just such a yawn of a story. Short version: I'm bored of Slater and his perfection. It's a story that won't go away and make room for others who are creative, and innovative.
