Rant - 20.7 feet at 16 seconds on the way....

I was looking at the forecast from swellinfo.com today and just happened to notice a bit of green on the far right edge. by itself, not too exciting except that it's for a 20.7 foot swell at 16 seconds. And just when I thought we were done....

Looks like a good time to go rent a lens and take shots of people getting in the last blast at Mavs.

It's still a long ways out, so don't get too excited yet.

I'm quite stoked about the green showing up for Saturday dawn patrol.

That's not all, wave watch iii shows 30@17 for the 31st-1st. This model often overpredicts massive swells in the 6-7 days out timeframe by about 20-30% still even 25 feet open ocean swell at 17 seconds is nuts.

Also, doesn't Spring & Easter Break start this weekend? Meaning plenty of crowded conditions for the next week. :(

Those photos must be Bolinas. Small crowd... probably a Tuesday mid morning session.

shOwn: It is the Bo' Saturday November 7, 2009. Our count was 60 + in the water that day stretched from the Channel to the Patch @ early afternoon, and they were still coming. Accordingly, the day before was even more crowded. Couldn't get to the beach from the ramp, and the surf was crashing over all the walls.

although cowells and linda mar can get crowded on the weekends, it is nothing compared to rincon, malibu, trestles, or swamis. the breaks down there are just damn near carpeted with surfboards. i'll take "crowded" OB any day.

agree with @freddiebrooks. i grew up surfing malibu, topanga and rincon and i can say the crowds and attitudes blow. they all share one unique trait: they are point breaks that provide reasonably easy paddle outs for surfers of any skill and commitment level. OB is self-selecting. you have to have some synapses misfiring to subject yourself to the 20+ minute paddle, whiplashing current, and savage beat downs. long live OB.

Thanks for the info Wave Glider. Novermber 7th... I remember it well. I was out there at DP for a pre-wedding surf session. I survived the ramp and the wedding that day.

from Buoy Alarm:
N. CA - Looks like the XXXL swell will just be XXL after the model shed 13 feet since yesterday. Remember, long-range is subject to change. Things are still looking very powerful with the surf peaking Wednesday morning (20.7 feet at 16.4 seconds 291°).

Before that arrives though, there's another WNW swell filling Sunday and peaking overnight (12.5 feet at 14.9 seconds 292°). Visit the Central California regional map for real-time information http://bit.ly/91Hb4o.
