Rant - Anyone ever tried this?

I know that our general opinion of SUP's varies on here, but I found this video on youtube and it looked like a really good way to get a wave if your stuck in the middle of the country. Thoughts? I am thinking of getting a rig to use in Ontario when I visit my parents and to have something to play with on the great lakes.

Hey if you don't have an ocean coast, it might be an alternative.

fishing, wakeboarding, waterskiing, hell tubing sounds like more fun.

No need for the SUP just grab a short fat stick and go.

i think that looks pretty damn fun to me. i've never tried SUP for waves...but I've used a SUP just to tool around the bay in Vancouver (Canada) and when there aren't any waves it's a pretty fun way to spend the day in the sun and get a good core workout.

wake surfing is more fun, but you need a good wake to it. looks like you don't need much of a wave for the sup. agree with whatupwilly that it's better than nothing when you're on a lake/bay and want to explore...too bad that guys outfit looks like a cirque du soleil reject...

you don't need a paddle to do that

My dad has a super air nautique that throws a good thigh high left with the ballast full and like 6 people right on the aft starboard seat. It burns the hell out of your thighs, really fun to practice little floaters and top turns. You are so close to the boat that your girl can hand you a beer and ask what song you want on. But nothing like a good 8 ft day at OB.

kooking it up out on the Delta on a freezing cold Oct morning. My friend (who looks a little like my icon don't you think?) aboard ConsciousPilot's fish.

The one think I kinda like about the SUP idea is that you don't need a rope to get going, you just get passed close by the boat, and away you go. Much of the wake surfing videos don't show the takeoff being pulled up by the rope, where with the paddle, you can get some speed and go for it. I still would much rather be surfing on a real wave in the ocean on my board, but If I got stuck inland for several months, this would start looking damn attractive.

Redneck surfing at its finest. there is a reason we have 2000 miles of land between us and them....No wait, they have already invaded Lindy....damn.
