Looking back over the posts on Stoke Report it looks like the first post was on August 3 2008 (kudos to duckdive). Sounds like an auspicious date for a Stoke Report Beach BBQ - at a secret location yet to be revealed. Maybe August 1st - it's a Sunday. All in favor?? Say aye!!
And few of you responded when I suggested a gathering. I'm a so sad :(

I don't get it. Whats so secret about O.B.? My secret spot is where ever its not crowded. Whose bringing the beer? Lets all chip in and get a keg!

Maybe best to wait till September or October when the Southern Hemi's are more active, and maybe the first NW pulse comes down?
@wave glider: it's probably better to do a get together if there's no waves. If the conditions are perfect, who's gonna want to socialize?

I think we ll get a little windswell. Could be alright but the wind is the biggest factor so unless we did it in the morning could be A no-surf meet and greet.

Here's an itinerary that has worked for the gathering I go down to So Cal for every November. Night before, a get together at some local Pub/surf shop for beer, Pupus and maybe a movie; day of event, early surf, then BBQ/food/potluck/grinds, raffle (maybe), then socialize and then a later surf. A photo op of all participants.
The raffle is a $1 ticket purchased in advance, and determinant on how many tickets are sold determines the drawing prizes. Also, people donate surf related items for the raffle if desired.

@Zurffy, BBQ'd buffalo burgers! Ya gotta try 'em, they're very tasty and less fatty than regular beef, unless you're a vegan.

Last comment on this topic/gathering; why OB @ #####'#? I'm thinking that LM, HMB, or The Bo would be more conducive for all, and weather and surf permitting more of a selection for us Longboarders too.
Plus, @ stokereport; 2 Mile might want to get involved if held at the Bo.

dude, one time, when i was at burning man, me and my bros were all like hey, when we get back to the city, lets throw a beach bbq... it was such a good idea at the time, then we get to the beach and the fog is all like RAAAWR RAAAAAWR GNARLY and the onshore winds were all like RAAAAWR RAWR dude, and then it started to drizzle just as we finally got the fire lit! but, after awhile the sun started to burn through and since it was still foggy and drizzling a little ways away a RAINBOW appeared, and my bros started jumping up and down and pointing at shit and screaming DOUBLE RAINBOW and i was all like dude, WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
I fear the surf is going to suck no matter where we choose.
If its a nice day elsewhere you can still get wet earlier and then rug up for an OB get together at 3pm.
Its the easiest for most of us to get to I think.

And Mr. Glider, are you familiar with the old adage, "organizing surfers is like herding cats"?...relax...feel the thrill of some chill and what the supreme reporter intimated, "this thing has a life of it's own". At this time of year, and given it's been cooler, cloudier, and surfless even more than normal...we all know the odds...better than a 50% chance it will remain the same...smart money wouldn't bet on surfing that afternoon...but the shmoozing could be epic.
I've always wanted to meet a sharkturd. See, and sniff you there. Maybe I'll show you what a piss shiver looks like bwuahahahaha
