I've been trying to figure out what to buy as my travel board and am so torn. I ride longboards but was thinking of something smaller as a travel board. I have an array of logs, HP longboards and am able to surf these all year around, all over the world, but I pearl sometimes on fast steep drops and also have a goal to get barreled more this year and progress my surfing. I was considering a 7'6" Takayama Scorpion, 7'6" 7S Superfish, or a 8'6" Takayama In The Pink, all epoxy (better for travel). IYO, What is the best all around travel board for 2 foot to over head surf?
Best all around travel board?

IMO, don't go anything over 8'0". 7'6" squash or RPT with a 2+1 or thruster fin set up.
Of the 3 you mention, the 7'6" 7S Super Fish would be my choice.

I always take a 6'6 santa cruz pumpkin seed (I think they make it up to 7'2), it works in 2-10 foot surf, floaty enough to catch small waves but holds up well in bigger surf as well. Plus its epoxy so its pretty indestructable. The only type of waves its not great in is really steep offshore waves but for everything else its awesome.

Though I don't usually like pop-out production boards I would have to agree with @Mr.Cool with a pumpkin seed. You can probably go smaller than you think. Take a look at their website and the ability/weight scale to get an idea. I have a similar shaped custom board and it works in a wide variety of conditions. The newer models also have 5 fin boxes so you can go quad or thruster or even quad plus a nubster small center fin. The pumkin seed will work much better in punchy waves where you have a shot at the barrel versus the 7s with the wider tail. You could probably demo one of these boards at some of the shops down in SC, I believe the shops on 41st have some demos.

I have a 6'6" firewire dominator that is great in all types of surf. Really floaty but fast and poppy - still feels like a shortboard. Works great in anything up to a couple of feet overhead, then duck diving becomes an issue.

I have a Pope-Bisect (9'4" Walden Magic Model, would probably sell it if anyone's interested,) it's pretty great for travel. It's an older model and can be a little high-maintenance at times, but then, you could say the same thing about me. Nice to beat the board fees; nice to slip it into the back seat of the teeny rental car, nice to be able to surf a familiar board in unfamiliar waters. And as far as the Walden Magic, I'd imagine you're all pretty familiar with it. It's good to go in anything from tiny peelers to large, angry Dominical.
