BIG MEAN SHARKS ATTACKING POOR FUZZY OTTERS

649

In the ruthless battle of the wild, cute and furry rarely wins.

Inevitably, some menacing predator sweeps through and sends a furry, friendly-looking critter the way of all things.

For California’s famously wubby sea otters, the prowling menace is increasingly a big white shark with big sharp teeth. Three times as many sea otter carcasses are being found washed up with shark bites now than in the ’90s.

Possibly not a good sign. In marine bio, prof said great whites typically don't stray from usual diet unless hungry / desperate.

Moral - throw a seal carcass in the water before your next session, make sure the sharks are fed first.

Well, there are still plenty of sea lions out there too. The Great Whites seem to be bouncing back quite well since they have been a protected species - going on 20 years now. Could it be that their growing numbers have spelled bad news for the sea otters?
