Bobby Martinez disqualified for talking sh**t about the ASP

315

“First of all, I’d like to say (an the ASP are going to fine me) ‘cuz I don’t want to be a part of this dumb f***ing wannabe tennis tour. All these pro surfers want to be tennis players. They want to do a halfway cutoff. How the f*** is somebody who’s not even competing against our caliber of surfers ahead of 100 of us on the one world ratings. They’ve never been here. They’ve never f***ing made the right to surf against us, but now we’re ranked upon them. Come on now. That’s Bullshit. That’s why I ain’t going to these stupid contests no more. This is my last one because FTW, my sponsors is here and I just tell it like it is. This is my last one and I don’t like tennis. I don’t like the tour… Who gives a f***? You know what I mean?”

“I’ve been here before. I love this city. I’ll tell you right now, if my sponsor wasn’t here, I wouldn’t be here for this dumb contest. ASP? They f***ing…surfing’s going down the drain thanks to these people.”

And here is the official ASP release.

That's a bummer, it would have been great to see his heat against Slater....on the other hand, chances are that Ke11y can get his 11th title at OB.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that Bobby was calling it quits after the NY event anyway.

Goes to show you, free speech has no place when you shit all over the the guy who's writing the checks :) Not a lot of bang for the buck though. Blah blah it's rigged, it's a tennis club blah blah all noise no signal. Say something salient and that we DON'T know Bobby :) Good luck free surfing brah :) See you out there!

Drunk, high, or both?

Kind of reminds one of trying to post a comment or ask a question here sometimes. If Bobby had said that on SR, he'd be in the wastebasket real quick.

I like how the ASP's letter to him misuses the word "efface." ( "your multiple offenses of this Article during 2011 that clearly 'efface a pattern of unacceptable conduct,' ")

I guess it's not weird that a professional sports organization churns out this kind of bullshitty, thin-skinned stuff. But Martinez is right: this is Tennis style, except that if it were Tennis the lawyers would know what the fuck the word "efface" means.

He's right. The ASP is taking the tour back to the bad old days of crowds-on-the-beach watching people grovel through crap.

Surfing has more than its share of wingnuts. In fact, the fact that a famous surfer actually goes by that name says a lot. Every sport has a code of conduct that you must agree to in order to participate. If you don't agree, you don't participate. Do I think Bobby should be shelved for half a season if this was ONE violation? No. If the guy won't pipe down on repeated occasions, then guess what bro, you ain't playing in our sandbox no more. BTW, how long a suspension did Sunny get for beating the crap out of that Aussie guy during an event? I mean, assault and battery is WAY worse than flapping your lips, correcT?
