Brett Simpson

Here’s a rant that will hopefully help offset the poor image caused this morning at Ocean Beach by certain Rip Curl Dicks (RCDs), who (presumably) are in the area to compete in the 2012 ASP Cold Water Classic.

I spotted another pro this morning, one incidentally not sponsored by Rip Curl: Brett Simpson. Unlike the RCDs, Brett is a genuinely nice and talented surfer. “Here for the Cold Water?” I asked him as we waited for a set. We chatted for a bit and, for about twenty minutes or so, shared a small peak. Not once did Brett show any of the RCDs’ rudeness witnessed by surfermax today. Brett’s behavior in the lineup gave this old salt some hope: not all pros (or wannabe-pros-who-happen-to-be-wearing-Rip Curl-wetsuits) are dicks.
