Rant - Bula! From Namotu Fiji

3 to 8 feet. Both clean and blown out. Kiters going nuts and at same time Cloudbreak is nicely rideable. Gotta love the reefs and protection they offer..... as long as you don't hit em. So far so good...knock on wood.

Hey Kok,

I stayed at Namotu in early July - we arrived the day after they changed the law (coincidence, we booked the trip back in April when the exclusivity law was still in effect). Obviously everybody is excited about being able to surf Cloudbreak and Restaurants, but I'd be curious to hear about the law's effect on Swimming Pools and Namotu Lefts. The law was too new in early July so Pools and Lefts was still mostly surfed by Namotu guests.

Most people in our crew got a reef cut of some sort from the Tavarua reefs, including me... stay safe and have fun.

Have you met Ulai (one of the boatmen)? If you have, then you'll enjoy this video:

Pools unfortunately has been blown the whole week. Restaurants as well. Namotu left had 4 of us on it solo for an hour. Then about 10. Plenty of waves to go around. There is some talk thatthe decree may be semi reversed with tavarua regaining control of cloudbreak. And namotu regaining control of the left. The whole exclusivity thing seems so strange even whole sitting here. Primary thing folks are concerned about is a ratnest full of surf resorts popping up that would crowd the waves, pollute the water and harm the reefs (anchors). Perhaps paradise lost. Perhaps not?
