Since declaring their intention to recapture the Guinness World Record for the 'most surfers riding the same wave' at the Earthwave festival to be staged at Muizenberg Beach on Sunday 4 October, Cape Town surfers have been putting in hours of preparation for the event.
A crew from The Fabulous Boomtown Boys, headquartered right on Muizenberg Beach, captured footage of a clandestine training session earlier this week with all the participants having that steely look in their eyes that has seen South African sportsmen excel in various sporting codes around the globe.
"We're stoked Westley Durand of Boomtown brought this situation to our attention," said Dene Botha of Kahuna Promotions, the founders and organisers of Earthwave.
"It just shows the lengths Cape Town surfers are prepared to go to get that record back from Earthwave Brazil. With finely tuned athletes like this amongst the hundreds of participants of all ages and abilities expected to take to the surf at Muizenberg on 4 October, that record will soon be back where it belongs, right here in Cape Town!" he added grinning.
