Rant - Completely Waterproof Mobile Phones...

When I'm not reviewing surf books, I run a mobile software company. Each year I go to Barcelona for a large mobile conference, and this year I saw something pretty cool. A completely waterproof mobile phone from Fujitsu. I believe they are all Android phones. They actually had the phones sitting in tanks of circulating water.

Now, before you all shit all over me for putting cell phones in the line-up, just know that I'm only sharing this for the pure geeky coolness of it. Would I get one? Probably not, but it would provide a nice slim camera for documenting your friends dropping in on you.

Cell phone usage while driving a vehicle is bad enough, now we must deal with it in the surf? Haven't seen anybody with a waterproof iPod out there yet.

Just what everyone on the water needs. Really! Everything should be waterproof. Why not?

Still saving up for my SurfMuff. Gots to prioritize my purchases of stuff I don't need.

I remember seeing some dude out in SC with a waterproof iPod case strapped to his arm. He was pretty popular in the line-up.

Only ever seen one guy with a waterproof ipod case, it was in HMB about 2 years ago. It seemed disconnecting, but whatever he was not getting many waves just kinda sitting around. Could be a bright side to this- All the youngsters might start texting, looking at the screen and missing waves. Obviously not as possible at OB, but I could see it happening at SC breaks especially on those lully south swells where 15-20 min go by without a set.
