I have a friend who prefers to wear contact lenses while in the water, but when I do my eyes are burned out afterward. So I go sans lenses. What is kind of interesting is that my eyes are getting better. I've been surfing for about 5 years and over that time my prescription has improved three times. I asked my optometrist if she thinks surfing has anything to do with it. She said it might since I am exercising my eyes while in the water. The constant grays and shadows and assessing the situation may be contributing to my improved eyesight. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I'm hoping it gets good enough that I can see the sharks down below. Or maybe I don't want to see that.

I know my daily disposables are about half the size they should be after a session. Almost can't get them out without a clean water flush.

when i meet the magic dolphin that grants wishes, perfect eye sight is #1 on the list. wearing contacts makes me not a fan of the strong onshores, i have to close my eyes during the pop up, which is trippy and not in a good way!

I hate not being able to open my eyes under water because of my contacts, especially in warm, clear locations. I have lost countless contacts to the spray and unfortunate, face planting wipeouts. A few times I have been able to grab my contact off my cheek and hold it in my mouth until I get back to the lineup and pop it back in. I have also swallowed a contact lens in this manner. My vision is too blurry to attempt a session without them.

i wear disposables in the water all the time. they suck. pickle_sf i squint just a little on the pop up. it helps. if you see the magic dolphin send him my way. and eatnectar i hate being in the dark under water, always. and i TOO have rescued lenses off my face, my board and off the brim of my lid. and eaten a few as well. 3415 you are experiencing the drift toward bi-focals. the near (or far) sightedness improves and the other deteriorates. my vision has done similar things but not enough to be lens free. i am still way too nearsighted to consider surfing without contacts. ya'll are my tribe! glad to know others have these issues too. those with good eyesight....count your blessings.
