This is awesome! Looks like a typical, frustrating day at OB... scattered, inconsistent shape, peaks popping up but always 50 yards away. Even the pros are like - wtf.

super enthusiastic crowd where I was standing, a lot of hooting and clapping, we were all rooting for Dane to land one of those airs in the second heat. cool wetsuits too. now work calls, bummer.

pretty rad to watch from the office, hopefully will channel my inner Taj this afternoon

How late will they run it today? Got to see the first two heats. Saw a few barrels. Backside 360. Stoked. But then had to go to work. Not as stoked. Hoping to get back out there before they're done.

That crab on Slater's board was hilarious. Slater thinking: "WTF is it with this weird place? Sharks and crabs and locals...oh my!"

A rally crab? DYIN! Maybe an interpretive dance where we crab dance and cheer would be cool. PS it was fun watching shit I'd never do on a surfboard :)

These judges are whacked. Kelly deserves to be winning, but these scores are bizarre.

Methinks they've gotten lucky having weather/wind/swell like this all come together on the first morning. Let's hope it holds for 'em

Matt Wilkinson thought the tsunami warning system tested each Tuesday at noon was a "shark alert." Priceless.

Slater is NEPTUNE! Even the freaking crabs pay him homage. Wilson and Wilkinson are shredding also. Tons of waves, but really the level of surfing is amazing on a day that's nothing special! Stoked to be checking it out.

This is absolutely the OB that I know and love.

Parko gives up early because he can't make the paddle back out in the remaining time. Perillo is all alone, needs to catch anything decent in the next 3 minutes, can't catch any of the roiling piles of whitewater, and it's all he can do to paddle in place. Classic OB.

I don't get why they are still running it today? I kinda thought that they would just run the contest in the mornings and let the crabs have the afternoon.

I was dying. He called it the worst surf he's ever experienced during a heat.

And yeah, doesn't make a lot of sense that they're forcing some add'l heats this afternoon. Although the winds aren't forecasted to be favorable later in the week beyond tomorrow morn.

They just made a comment that all heats from here onwards are "by vote" of the competitors (i.e, the surfers can choose to run their heat or not). Interesting

Looks like the old girl had the riding crop out if not the full whips and chains (not big enough). Without a doubt the best day of surfing in the history of OB. Very good commentary on the webcast. Tomorrow could be even better.
