On another topic, commentators just had a funny discussion regarding the toughness of NorCal surfers & ability to surf anywhere. Unfortunately, the lack of consistency doesn't normally allow the fine tuning of skills needed to compete at the pro level, especially for guys surfing the Beach regularly (as opposed to Santa Cruz, where a lot of pros have emerged). I know that's true for me. I feel like I could surf almost anywhere & duck dive w/the best of them, but my ability to actually do anything on the wave is severely limited.

I progress more from a couple of sessions in SC than I do in almost a whole season up here. I still love OB, and I love it even more when I get to apply whatever I learned in SC.

Almost too much to see how the pros are painting the waves with their own personal technique. Anticipate crowd up for the rest of the winter - the place looks awesome on the webbie so far today. Really good conditions to surf and see.

Agreed - that was a sick heat. The following heat with Owen Wright also looked pretty good. Seemed like there was some kind of unintentional foreshadowing going on during the webcast as they cut from Slater celebrating 11 on the beach to next-gen Wright pulling off crazy airs in the lineup.

I felt bad for OW. He was absolutely killing it while the press was jocking KS for his title.
It caused the speakers to get turned off so they could hear KS without interference,
then when OW was asking for a time and score check, there was no answer on the loud speaker.
