Tonight's Critical Mass kicks off the Memorial Day weekend. How so? Well, according to SF Appeal, they posted this "suggested rout map" for tonight's ride. Said map directs riders to start off at Justin Herman Plaza, into the bowels of the Marina, and end at Ocean Beach where one will find a "memorial OM" (?) for the BP oil spill.
Leave it to the bike people to come up with a way to pollute the air :) what a way to memorialize/protest.

I loves me a bike ride just as much as anyone, but CM can SUCK IT.
Did they even make it to the beach? I'd be impressed, because Critical Mass these days just plods around the flat parts of town and snarls traffic. It's been taken over by fixie kids with trust funds who can't climb a hill but love pissing off drivers.
Mom didn't give me enough attention! Let's ride in a loop around Civic Center a couple of times and start fights with people trying to get home from work!

Funny how easy it is to turn a friend into an enemy!
It's not so much that they're friends that turned into enemies, but more, the ideas they have about what cycling is, that need to change.
Yes, cycling is fun, and cool and everyone should do it.
Yes, it's healthy.
Yes, it's cheaper, and reduces fossil fuel consumption.
But now it's time to berate the obvious:
Cycling is not blocking people from going home.
Cycling is not confronting other people maliciously.
Cycling is not disobeying traffic laws.
Cycling is not anarchy and tipping over SF Express paper holders and breaking windows.
Cycling is not forcing your views on anyone else on the last Friday of each month.
When CM gets that, it will be better.
