The U.S. Park Police is stepping up its beach patrols in the Bay Area this weekend because of riptides, which are especially dangerous at this time of year.
Even though the waves may not be large, beachgoers could be lulled into a false sense of security.
This is the season for the most dangerous ripcurrents at Ocean Beach, considered the most dangerous in the state because winter storms have reshaped the sands below the surface.
Friday was a hot sunny day in San Francisco and drew larger than usual crowds to Ocean Beach.
One group of teens said they're familiar with Ocean Beach and its unique geographic conditions that can form some of the deadliest ripcurrents in the state.
