Date - Feb. 25, time - 7:15 AM, air temp - 49 degrees, water temp - 51 to 55 degrees, wave height - overhead plus. Typical wetsuit used 4/3 with booties and hood. This guy out there rippin' in just shorts! I was shivering just standing on the cliffs.

Wha? I can't speak for this gent, but whenever I forget my wetsuit I find that a hearty combo of meth and roids is enough to keep warm me in the chilly waters for several hours!

According to Wikipedia, "Heat is lost more quickly in water. Water temperatures that would be quite reasonable as outdoor air temperatures can lead to hypothermia. Water temperature of 50 °F often lead to death in one hour." I think it would be cool if everyone except me surfed sans wetsuit. Seems like it might solve my crowd issues.

I paddled out at OB once sans wetsuit. Had left it at the house one dawn patrol morn, and didn't have time to go back home & retrieve it. Got talked in to paddling out anyway. After the initial shock wore down, it wasn't so bad. Until about 30 minutes in to it when my body explained to my brain that it couldn't survive in those temperatures and that it would soon shut down if my brain didn't let it go home. The body won that battle.

I saw a guy out in boardies on the east side last year, but on a sunny warm afternoon, and he was kind of a big guy and on a long board. even then i was impressed, but this is a different league.
