The SUP surf contest was cancelled because of the swell, so they had an expression session. Some wicked wipeouts when you consider that the drag on a SUP is often greater than the drag of a body and thus long feet-first 'rides' underwater are possible when the waves are that big. Can the SUP guys get some respect now?

SUP noob question. Say an OH wave (or in the Makaha case 3OH) has dropped on top of your noggin. Do you actually hold on to your paddle while getting dragged feet-first underwater? A one-handed swim back to the surface? Or is that paddle gone and you're scrambling to grab it before the next wave descends on your noggin?
Just wondering....

alls I know is that the loose paddle and/or SUP board would be used for a different purpose than it was designed for if this pasty white guy tried to surf Makaha.

Check out the guy chasing his board over the falls at 1:40.
"Wheee!"
(probably not what he was saying)
