I hate it when someone can surf that much better than me. If I spot his car in the lot, I'm slashing its tires.

Heh still with the attitude. No one hates your videos, man.
I know that's the persona you're trying to put out there, but people like good surf shots.

I think this one's really great. SICK surfing, good vibes, ice cold waves, and I dig the song.

It is an interesting take on a marketing plan. Like "Here's another sweet video for all of you to enjoy. Now SUCK IT!"
Keep em coming, Chris. I think we all like the videos. I like the cattle dog cameos. Hopefully, someday that you'll realize that StokeReport is full of people that like your films and might even pay you to see them in full length high resolution. Anyway, thanks for sharing and taking the time to capture these great surfers on film.

i have a job. so there is no concern about opinion and political correctness. we make these videos (el granada and sf locals together) and sometimes they just come out different. if there are people doing dumb things then we will make one that is all hard and stuff. it is a tuff call on the selling of the images. i was born and raised in the city and all the old guys would kick our asses if we showed one still image online. im 40 years old now. things have changed .... a lot. like in 1988 there were maybe 100 surfers here. i could go on and on about what is right or wrong in our community. but one thing is for sure and that is we like to keep a low profile around here. can you dig that?

More attitude and posturing. You take great footage of surfers doing awesome stuff. Why all the puff? Let the shots speak for themselves!

Chris is right - we like to keep a low profile around here. That's why SR has gotten so much flack. Anything but a low profile...

Jobs are good. Glad you have one. I am also glad you make some good films with your friends and share with us. I can totally dig that. You have a talent for making surf films. That was really my point. The initial presentation was a little rough, that's all.
100 surfers here in 1988? Really? I could dig that. I understand your perspective a lot more now. Probably feels like surf Space Invaders.

Tracey, why can't a man express himself the way he desires with out some chick bringin' him down for it. when i was young i ditched school to go to the cove and on the way to the beach i listened to gangsta rap like Too $hort and stuff like that. you are a designer ... you should know everyone has an individual style. shit we used to take girls like you to the cave. ;)

@chris wilson: so your posting here is to just promote Powerlines Productions in any way you can? If that's allowed, then go for it. Free advertising. The vid's are great, keep 'em coming. How about some T-shirts & hats.

chris wilson

@Wave Glider: i don't think it is just to promote. its like a rap battle. i think to myself, "oh these guys are going to show images of the beach and stuff eh!? well if that is the case then let me show you what the real locals are doing image wise. because if you are going to do it then im gunna' do it then everyone is gunna' do it and now there's hellza people doin' it. it is so frustrating and i know it won't go away. i went to some shinanigan where new non local fotogz are selling shots of ###### for $250. it bummed me out so bad that it puts a man on the defense. hats and tee's are expensive and i feel bad charging my friends for a hat so we end up giving them all away. besides that you end up becoming a vendor of surf items. and isn't that selling out after all. it's a fine line. i am a film-maker. i don't want to be a sell out. does this make any sense or am i just being dumb?

Films cost time and money to produce and edit. It also takes the talent to film and keep the talent you're filming motivated to keep filming them. If you have to sell rad hats with the cool "P" logo then so what? If people want to pay you to advertise your label and the good films you produce by wearing your hats and shirts, then why not? Is it selling out? I don't think so. Too $hort, just like any artist, got his art out to the peeps. He didn't sell out. Neither will you. Do what you want with your art. Just know there is a market ready, willing and waiting to soak it up. Making you Chris Wil$on. And everyone is happy because of the entertainment service you provide. Again, keep the vids, comin. And if you want to keep it just amongst friends, that's cool, too.

@friscohio: ditto.

@chris wilson: Understand your logic, but you're $elling yourself $hort. Back in the days we would make 9 mm videos and show them in the neighborhood garages to our friends. Sometimes at school (High School that is) too. Charged a quarter and sold Kool Aid and popcorn for a nickel and saved the money to buy a new board. We're in the process of converting all the old footage. Will post when done, but it's been a laborious project, and very delicate.

I don't think the intent of Chris posting this video was any different than his other video post today (the Stone's Bolone's video), and you all seemed to love that. There were only positive comments on that one, and they were only posted 20 minutes apart. So why do you all assume he was posturing and being negative from the get go?

You all seem to read so much negativity into everything this guy does. Do you ever think that maybe he's just been flamed by so many people on this blog that he just sort of automatically put on the defensive?

I don't know Chris, maybe you can tell me: I just assumed first comment on your rant to mean that some people will probably like this, and some people will probably vent and hate. But you're not too fazed either way, so you're going to keep posting the footage. Am I right, or am I way off?

If you attack him, I think Chris has shown by now he's not the type who's going to go, "Oooops - sorrrrrrrrrryyy." So, why attack him? Can't you just enjoy the video?? Pat Bolinger rips and it's friggin' fun watching him surf. That's all that's important to me...

friscohio

@Kenny Reyes, one post says "Enjoy the visuals." The other says "Feel free to make comments, vent and hate. won't be fazed." there's a different message between the two. It's interesting to see how people react to different deliveries. The video content is always great, but it's neat how different approaches elicit different reactions. I don't think anyone is attacking him. We all love the videos.

Hey Chris Wilson, is it possible for you to post a video without being a jerk? Cant you let the videos speak for themselves?

and now only vetted locals can sell photos of ######...

Maybe the mid-westerners and new yorkers should try to keep a lower profile themselves, as Chris explained, and not tell the locals what their culture should be. All I hear is whining. Oh, and good luck catching any waves if you share a peak with the Ninja. (Too $hort's new album is great, by the way)

I love jokes!

The only whining this MidWesterner is doing is whining for more videos. I was a little confused by the original presentation, but now I get it. Peace.
