The human banner at OB 10/13/2012

9967

While photographing the banner, I did not understand what they meant or who Citizens United was, but now I know. I was asked by many people at the scene what the term meant, and I shrugged my shoulders and said I don't know. On their website Citizens United it says they are an organization that "dedicated to restoring our government to citizens' control. Through a combination of education, advocacy, and grass roots organization, Citizens United seeks to reassert the traditional American values of limited government, freedom of enterprise, strong families, and national sovereignty and security. Citizens United's goal is to restore the founding fathers' vision of a free nation, guided by the honesty, common sense, and good will of its citizens."
This event was organized by a Brad Newsham, Andrew Boyd and John Sellers. They have a website humanbannersf. This event was a "a collaboration between Brad and The Other 98%, with support from CREDO Mobile, Code Pink, Common Cause, Courage Campaign, Democrats.com, Move to Amend, Public Citizen, Roots Action, Ruckus Society, and unPAC.org.
The people who formed the banner lined up and joined hands at the edge of the surf.

You've kinda got it backwards.

They're actually referring to a court case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._Federal_Election_Commiss...

Said case allows for basically unlimited corporate money in elections. The winning plaintiff in the case was said organization "Citizens United".

So what you witnessed was in fact a protest AGAINST "Citizens United" and against unlimited corporate money in elections.

Hope that clears things up!

" Dump citizen united" was spelled out to clarify this

Yes stokereport is a surf site but this is too important to ignore. It's really amazing the number of people who don't know the implications of the CU ruling and even more so those who've never heard of it. Unless this decision is reversed ASAP (less likely with neo-cons and repugs in power!) the middle and working class of this country will experience an even faster decline. I haven't a clue why anyone but corporations, rich fucks and their enablers would support CU.

Haha you gotta love the double speak nomenclature. Some Joe on the street would be all "Sure I'll sign a petition for Citizens United, damn let's UNITE, YEAH!!!" I'm not for nor against CU, but I just love the marketing aspect of it.

Good morning turd,piss

This is pretty sick to see that some people know what's going on with CU. I have a huge boner for Senator Bernie Sanders since he's spearheading the legislature to get it removed.

@piss, unless you endorse deceptive marketing techniques...you know, false advertising, I don't know why you would love CU's. If you're not for OR against the CU ruling then I strongly suggest you read-up a bit and familiarize yourself with it, as everyone should do. You'll find that it just gives even more power to those who already have the bulk of power and influence in this country. Many who keep a watch on our precious "democracy" have said this may be the worst thing that has ever happened to it.

Not being for or against CU is quite possibly the most ignorant position one can possibly take on something that has this much impact on our country. Sounds like APATHY to me. Apathy is the glove into which evil slips it's hand. If you like your ability to live a bohemian, surfing lifestyle, it would be very wise for you to learn a bit about what is happening to the politics in our country. It really matters right now.

This is my answer to politics on a surfing site.
Have a cat.
I pet it this morning while I was riding my motorcycle. The cat seems to cross the road a lot, and every time I see it, I just dead stop, park and pet it. Dont' ask me why, it's just my tradition. She lives next to the 'Rip, collarless. Some house there however has a food bowl and water dish all set up. I don't like her without a collar, nor walking the streets...but anyway..

and here's my response: does anyone know of a good slice house in the city? Pizza has been going to shit for about ten years now. I've been hitting Cerranno's in the Mission. kinda done with that place. mediocre at best. and please don't say Golden Boy- he been going down hill for about five years.
PS- nice cat!

The best pizza slices have gone down the crapper for sure. The only really good slice now is Chico's on 6th and Mission. As an added bonus, there is a steady stream of characters for entertainment.
