Hurley and Warner Bros. Records Set to Release The Drifter

316

Authentic youth lifestyle brand Hurley and Warner Bros. Records will release The Drifter, iconic surfer Rob Machado's much-anticipated autobiographical movie, this fall. The film will have limited theatrical screenings across the country and will also be released on DVD. Directed by Poor Specimen's Taylor Steele this is a personal journey as much as it is a showcase of some of the world's most flawless waves.

The Drifter starts in Bali, where Machado is looking for life's deeper meaning. That surf trip ends up taking him on a soul-searching journey where he eventually finds himself in Indonesia's outermost reaches with nothing but a surfboard, his journal and a tent. Machado's conclusion after scoring more perfect waves than any surfer could ever wish for? There's always a new dream to chase.

Was at SF airport a year ago flying to San Diego. There was a dude there with a laptop, clothing etc covered in Hurley logos....and a sticker mocking some other company for not being "Real Surf". I think he was on his way to SD surf trade show.

As mentioend above, Hurley, poses as an "authentic" surf company, whatever that is....and like this dude at SFO...mocks others for not being what they claim to be. .....real, man....real.

PLEASE DON'T FORGET THAT HURLEY IS OWNED BY NIKE (2008 revenue $18,627,000,000)

And all Nike wants to do is sell us tons and tons of disposable crap we probably dont need......95% of which is made from plastic / petroleum and will never biodegrade.

Nothing wrong with buying what one needs to get by and catch a few waves.

But watch out for this authentic surf b.s. when peddled by gigantic corporations. Sorry to be so preachy but the poseur action of Hurley pisses me off.

Naw man, I had the same impulse to hawk a conceptual loogy in that general direction- "authentic youth lifestyle brand" my eye! If that isn't an oxymoron... "life's deeper meaning", oy vey. It's been a long time waiting for "using surfing to sell stuff" trend to go away, unfortunately it seems well-lodged as a mainstream advertising scheme. Money talk$!

No dis on burro for posting, btw- Rob is a great surfer- I'm sure the film is enjoyable.

I don't have much to say either way about any big surf-lifestyle company, but this spoof of Hurley's Phantom boardshort ad was pretty funny:

It wasn't really funny until a buddy and I saw the shorts in the store and noticed that they do, in fact, cost nearly $100 :-O
