Tried one at Nor Cal Surf Shop....Just about broke my neck! Thinking it could be a way to kill some time on a rainy day. Do you have one? Is it helpful for a surfer who is tired of watching Sponge Bob Square Pants with the kids?

I don't think Indo boards really do much except train you to stand on an Indo board. If you have an exercise ball, just take the fins off a board, plonk the board on top of the ball, and stand on that.

Yes, helpful. After I could balance well on a roller I went and got a small basketball at Target, had to practice holding onto something at first. Great for transitioning from a longboard to smaller boards.

Built one out of $5 worth of stuff from Home Depot (an excellent rainy day project by the way). Not convinced it actually does anything for your surfing, but it's an amusing novelty none the less. Totally worth the $5.
Totally not worth the absurd $100-150 retail they're asking for a foot of PVC pipe and a scrap of wood. Build it at home. PVC, couple scraps of wood, a bit of grip tape and 15 minutes of time. Cake.

Agree with @tannin I built one but bought the indo flow cushion for way less. Really cheap for the wood and less than 20 for the cushion but a flat ball might work as well. Pipe roller is fun but cushion seems to work more muscle and side balance. Squats and holding a squat good work out. It gets easier pretty quick start on carpet. Ther are lots of workout ideas and intructioons for building on youtube

I just looked at photos of the Indo online. The 'net photos show a board with a cylindrical roller. If that's really what it is, I'm not sure it's a specific enough device to be really helpful with surfing since it'd help with balance left and right, but not fore and aft. In order to help one's balance with regards to turning in surfing, you need a trainer that helps develop fore and aft balance.
A board with a ball underneath it would probably be better. That or a "longboard" skateboard. IMO, the longboards really help with the balance one needs for roundhouse turns.

There are also balance balls cut in half that might be a bit safer than standing on a full ball in your house.

Warning: I'm going to channel ignorant and biased piss_shiver.
With respect to surfing: worthless, gimmick, overpriced, did I mention useless?
The only saving grace to that thing is that it could be fun to monkey around on it at home while taking conference calls.

Tarp surfing helps your barrel rides too HAHA! I would rather put my old bearings back in my skate (longboard) and skate in the rain LOL!
It's only good if you like it.

Indo Boards help to develop balance and core strength, and they're fun and addicting. Your kids would most likely have fun with it. The stronger your core, the better the athlete you'll be no matter what sport you do. Along with the Roller, there is also the IndoFlo Cushion and IndoFlo Gigante Cushion which allows 360 degrees of instability. There are many top professional trainers, Paul Hinicker for example, who use Indo Boards to train and rehab their pro athletes.

I bought a used Indo board for exactly the reason posted by @Gette - rehab for a partially torn ligament in my ankle. I found a blow-up disc/ball at Ross for cheap. Definitely helped speed up the rehab along with other PT. There are videos of people cross-stepping on an Indo board and a girl doing some crazy yoga moves, but I never got to those black diamond runs.

you can probably get more stand up balance time on this thing than actual surfing.....considering an average surfer is maybe standing for....uhh...5 minutes total out of an hour session?

@Gette: so what job do you have a Indo Boards?
I'll guess Minister of Propoganda. Hope it pays well.

Hi @kookastic. Thank you for your comment; I appreciate all comments. I'm here because I read that someone here on this site had an Indo Board question, so I responded. I love Indo Boards because they have truly changed my surfing for the better. I stand text book correct on my surfboard and rarely do I fall anymore which is all due to the Indo Board and savvy surfers who were willing to help fine tune my surfing posture. I'm sorry if you feel that I've mislead you with what you think is propaganda as that was never my intention for you or for anybody here. I'm only here to convey what I think and know to be a great thing that happens to be a fun and effective balance trainer to all kinds of people and to all kinds and types of athletes. My job? Pay well? Ha! But I suppose that is a matter of perspective. All of the great jobs that I've held in my life, for instance, when I was the air brusher at a surfboard factory, have all been a labor of love. I live my passion, I live to surf, and I am healthy. So yes, I am "payed" well - with a lot of fun waves when communing with the Ocean because I ride my Indo Board.
May you too get payed with waves. Or with money. Whatever you'd like best.
Check this guy out. I think he has more stoke than anybody.
