The official lineup of competitors for The Jay at Maverick's Big Wave Invitational was announced this morning by the Half Moon Bay Surf Group, the new organization running a contest at Maverick's. Of the 24 surfers invited to compete in this year's event, the biggest name to be included in the list is former Nine-Time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater, who last surfed at Maverick's in 2000 where he finished in second place.
I thought with my epic Linda Mar sessions, I woulda been invited this year. WTF? Oh well. ;-)

I suppose eventually "The Jay at Mavericks" will sound as natural as "The Eddie" but for now sounds a little strange to this kook's ear.
Can you tell me how to get to the maverick? Maybe I can get my picture with a pro surfer! Is this the maverick?

I'm hoping that some of the placed invitees can't come because they're on a free surf filming trip sponsored by Red Bull, Volcom, and Paul's Pool Noodles. That way some of the locals can get in as alternates :)
