Just too out of control for the girls

171

Interesting rant on the postsurf blog about the Women’s Mr Price Pro in South Africa (a key WQS event) not crowning a 2009 champion, due to “adverse surf and weather conditions.” (see the picture for what the "adverse" conditions looked like).

Anyway, check out the postsurf blog for it's usual hilarious commentary.

Every time I read postsurf I think of the Playa Haters Ball:

Ugh. Makes me want to wash out my brain with soapy water.

Chappelle by comparison is witty and probably, at his core, good-hearted.

For all their supposed grooviness, surfers can be really, really conservative and behind the times. I cringe when I read misogynist crap like that.

I assumed that the misogynist stuff was ironic, since it is clearly so over the top e.g. "if only we had cocks" ... I thought lewis was really saying that the girls should be considered just like the guys and he was calling them out on publicly saying that they were not.

Care to comment Lewis?

I thought his journalistic work on the recent turtlegate scandal had great integrity ;)

Ironic? Uh, OK. Guess I need a little winking smiley face or something to cue me.

Otherwise, if I don't know the guy's sense of humor in advance, it reads pretty straight (I thought) and blends right in with a long legacy of misogynist crappola.

This is by someone who writes here? Yeah, please tell me your intent with this. I'm curious.

Jonathan, yea, you might be right. If it's not ironic, I agree, it's horrible, and you can throw me off a cliff. I just thought it was.

I dunno chrispy... humor is a funny thing (heh). The growing string of commentary on that site seems to be all kind of on the same page, jokey-assholish, so probably you're right, it was ironic and I just didn't get it.

Culture is evolving fast, particularly on the internet, and I definitely miss cues that other people get, and vice-verse.
