The local used board racks

Rant - The local used board racks

Anyone got compelling reasons to use one surshop's consignment service over another to sell a board? (I don't need specific shop names etc..) Just wasted part of the weekend craigslisting a board & calculated paying a slice to a broker would be an acceptable alternative. Are the shops pretty much the same or should I shop around?

A while back I had in my possession a 7'10" Harbour Drifter that I picked up in So Cal for a very low price in excellent condition. Harbour boards are very difficult to find up here for the price I paid, and I thought I wanted this specific board(not). So after a while, I decided I wanted a new longer board, so I decided to sell the Drifter on CraigsList, to include a brand new ProLite board bag and leash. After posting for about 6 months, and getting very few responses, with the exception of low ballers, and just plain "dicks," I decided to put it in a local Nor Cal shop up here above the Gate on consignment. They wanted about 20% if I remember, or trade for another board/merchandise in their shops. The board never sold in the shops, one of which was in town, the other at their beach shop at the Bo.

In conclusion, if you want just cash, sell it on CL, or at a surf swap. If you want another board, shop around for a shop that will give you the best deal/trade for the board you're trying to unload. It also helps to know the owners at the shop, and especially if you frequent them and are a regular customer. Otherwise you're at their consignment rules, and could lose money on the sale.

If I remember correctly, wasn't there mention of adding a link to sell items here? Would be nice since I have a brand new O'Neill Psycho 1 wetsuit, size XL I have been trying to sell for a while for $200 (hope this doesn't get me in trouble).

BTW, after almost a year I did finally sell the Drifter on CL, but after much BS dealing with many trolls and "dicks" on CL who think they can get something for nothing.

Hope this helps Poiuyt.

I'm thinning out my quiver (leaving the area), and just sold three boards in two days on craigslist. First time I used it to sell, and the entire experience was positive in my case. I gave my cell phone number in the ads, and clearly stated "cash only". I did get two obscure emails that I ignored, and about 6 phonecalls, all from reasonable, sincerely interested people.

I still have two boards left; 6'6 x 19 x 2.5 squash tail thruster (close-to-new) and 7'2 x 18 5/8 x 2 5/8 rounded pin step-up (major repair, otherwise good condition). $400 takes both... Contact me if interested.

@poiuyt I don't know what boards you have but I will trade you my girlfriend for a McCoy Nugget if you have one. If you are interested I will tell you her dimensions.

Craigslist hasn't given me too many problems. I personally believe in using Craigslist for used boards, Surf Shops for brand new ones.
