Maverick's surfers still on hold

I think most of us figured this out with a storm heading our way....

The Maverick's big-wave surf contest had high hopes for running the event Wednesday, but called it off Monday after a vote of the 24 competitors. Although there are no potential contest days on the immediate horizon, reports indicate more big swells for Northern California sometime next week.

why isnt this contest held in Nov or Dec? Seems like place always get a great swell early. Is it because all the pros are elsewhere and dont want to do this contest until Jan, Feb, March?

One reason was they didn't want to conflict with the Eddie Aikau.

I've been trying to score an entry form for weeks, but no one will give me the time of day. Why is everyone ignoring me?

I had the same issue with the HeismanTrophy years ago. 4 years of college.....nothing! Probably would have helped if I'd played football.

What are you guys talking about? All I had to do to become an astronaut was sent a well crafted evite to the crew offerring to throw a raging party in their shuttle. Sure I had to promise to clean up after, but it was an awesome time.

this is what happens when you let 24 surfers decide the fate of a contest. this event wont run in 2010, just like it didnt run in 2009. there are many days of contestable waves at mavs from Jan-Mar. But you need leadership and decision making from the top to say: f-u condition are good, waves are big enough to have an event its on. when you need consensus among 24 guys its not going to happen, they are all waiting for a 20' @ 20 sec swell with blue skies, light east winds, etc etc. those days are so rare. you could have easily ran the event this sunday. it was nice out, you had 18-22' waves breaking. this event is about money and commercial success, no one wants to see the event happen in 30' surf if its foggy and overcast. these big wave guys have more balls than brains, thats for sure.
