Warning to those traveling to Mexico into the States of Colima and Michoacán. Four of us in a car got highjacked by a group of five banditos with guns on the main highway just south of La Ticla last Thusday at 10am. My buddy and I were held captive for four hours as my other two friends got ransom money together. They bound and gagged us and threatened to kill us. At one point they left us and we got out of our ties and ran through the forest barefoot to safety. Too many details to recount but I swear this story is true. Please warn anyone traveling to Mexico to the States of Colima and Michoacán to look out for banditos on the road. They wear camouflage, bandana masks, and can be mistaken for federales. If you see them put your heads down and race through them. Do not stop. Stay safe everyone. Cheers.

Holy sh*t! Glad you're okay.
I was a partner in a small mexican folk art import business a few years ago and did some traveling into the heart of Michoacan.
It's a beautiful area of Mexico, but it's sad how much things have deteriorated into a state of lawlessness. The Mexican government is bought and paid for one of the cartels that's battling "The Family" in Michoacan.
Hopefully, it will once again be a safe destination for gringos some day.
