Has anyone ever ridden a mini simmons /bar of soap shape?
I thinking of shaping one and am looking for suggestions or input.
Primarily hoping to ride in beach break slop and beach break tubes.
thoughts?
I'm shaping one right now- have not rode one yet don't see them too much around. Currently I'm still shaping the blank- working on the rails and bottom. My buddy made one about 6 weeks back and he has been enjoying it. I looked around for blanks for awhile and ended up getting two sheets of 1.5 inch 2lb eps from White Cap supply glueing them up and shaping it from that. Works well for this board low rocker and flatter bottom. He made a 5'0" by about 22" but is only about 135 lbs, that board is too small for me. I'm making a 5.6 X 23" since I'm around 175. Hope to sell my hardly used longboard when I'm done so making it for small waves. Based on feedback from my friend the boards are very fast. We were able to talk to Richard Kenvin at Sacred Craft down in SC in March and got some interesting ideas from him- he said it didn't matter too much what you did with the bottom could be flat or single or double doesn't have to be a hull. I'm making some big wood twin fins to glass on, my friend made his own fins as well since its harder to find ones big enough.
