Waves are always the most deceiving when you’re down the beach, unable to tell if a barrel is too fast, or just makeable. “This wave breaks close to my home and often masks its true nature,” says Chris Burkard. “Although you can capture a beautiful moment here, it is only seconds before the entire beach turns into one giant wall.
