New record set for the most dogs on a surfboard

1443

Carlsbad surfer Scott Chandler surfed with a total of 17 dogs onboard at the 8th Surf Dog Competition hosted by Loews Coronado Bay Resort for a Guinness World Record. Going into the Surf Dog Competition, Chandler had won 6 of the previous 7 events riding tandem with his daughter Tyler, and dog Zoey. The World Record effort was a specialty exhibition as part of the Surf Dog Competition.

As a longtime waterman and ocean explorer, Chandler rides and builds shortboards, longboards and standup paddle (SUP) boards. While known for tow-in big wave surfing, hydrofoil surfing and SUP competitions, many people are taking notice of his dog surfing on smaller waves.

If that could be made a human requirement at Linda Mar, the line up would be much easier to get into...

Seventeen??? What's he got, a couple in his pocket? Why do the dogs never look like they're stoked?

Theres nothing I love more than seeing a dog on a surfboard but those dogs are sooo not stoked:( Also dogs hate to be crowded like that, I wonder how he keeps them from jumping off?

I dunno'; I think that bulldog to the right is stoked. Looks like it's reading that wave and planning on going left to take out the non-stoked channel dude.

What's up with dog owners thinking that their pooches want to do what they do? Maybe they are trying to learn tips on how to surf from their best friends. Apparently some guy put a goat on a surfboard and surprisingly it surfed way better than some of the doggies. Humans, ( the bottom of the barrel) I am sure i will get a few thumbs down for this comment. Go ahead, i ready for em.

17 does seem a bit crazy but dog-stoke is hard to read sometimes. Had a dalmation when living in Colorado. I was doing a lot of back country telemark skiing and I brought him one time. Right away I thought bad idea- he was shivering, paws iced up, he was jumping every step to make it through 3 ft deep powder- not a winter mountain dog. Hour and a half hike later he was frozen and looked pathetic. He bombed down the hill behind us and we skipped a second run on his account. He was glad to see the car and curl up in the back. I thought he was one and done but after that everytime I pulled the skis out of the closet he went nuts and sat next to the hatchback until I let him in- sometimes he'd sit there for 45 minutes. He was IN- 100%- everytime. Had a friend make him a fleece vest to keep his core warm but he still seemed to suffer. BUT HE WAS STOKED!!!!
