From OB to Big Sur

Since OB has been more or less a surfing black hole the last few weeks, I've been cobbling these surf photos together on Flickr to cheer up those of you desperate for some decent sliding.

NICE, thank you.

Something about that shark picture really scares me. The size, obviously, but the fact that it's actually on a wave in the surfline is super disturbing. I have an illusion that I'm safe there.

A controversial spot there! Funny, it brings up the issue of ********* again (I don't want to type it), in my mind: I'm curious to know the name of one of the spots that I can't place, but am conscious of not wanting to ask any of you here, on the www.

Love the ob shots. What a nice (and intense) wave we have sometimes.

drove past F***$$$*s a couple years ago after spending the day surfing further south. Hot, August offshore day with south swell running.

Looked straight down on unbelieable waves wrapping in. Felt like I was up in a helicopter.

too late in the day and too tired to hike down, but my oh my. what a site that F&$@#$%ers was.

on the map you linked to, it's where the letter "C" is. the price of admission was always high: it is a fast, very heavy beachbreak. after seeing mr. greysuit in the impact zone, the price became too high.

ha, that pic from big sur reminds me of one day at home in san mateo. rode the bike down the hill for a mid-day surf check. clean, glassy, small chest high sets rolling in. two other guys checking it. tide was a bit up. maybe a little too high for it to really be "on", but it was clean and still doable. then this big ass fin surfaces right dead smack in where you'd you'd line up to take off, cruises along for about ten yards, and dives. we didn't say a word to one another. just a pause -- beat -- and then a glance at one another followed by another pause -- beat -- and then all three of us just slowly shook our heads slightly, nodded to one another, turned around, and left. without a word.

never have paddled out at that particular spot down there, but i've seen guys on it a few times on the way further south. always felt pretty creepy.
