Ocean Beach Sand Mangement Project to partly close Great Highway

1889

The southbound lanes of the Great Highway will be partly closed for most of every weekday starting Monday, Aug. 20 as part of a project that will truck tons of sand to the erosion-scarred s0uth end of Ocean Beach.

Parking at Ocean Beach also will be affected by the Ocean Beach Sand Management Project, with lots on the n0rth end of the beach and the lot at Sl0at Boulevard seeing the greatest impact. At the parking lot opposite the Beach Cha1et, about 20 parking spots on the s0uth end of the lot, near Stairwell 28, will be used for the project. Parking south of Sl0at Boulevard west of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control plant also may be affected.

I have strange feeling all that sand is going to end up exactly where it started. I do know this. Past the second parking lot as the great highway turns left is a great spot. Now it is a broken highway.

Instead of pissing into the wind, they're dribbling into the current. Same result no doubt. "We want to see how long the sand will stay?" Wow. 100,000 - 150,000 cubic yards - that's a minimum of 5,000 twin semitrucks trunding up and down the great highway. Starting today and no end in sight. How much is this costing the city (or whoever)? I knew that sewage treatment plant location was a dumb idea - now they're stuck with trying to protect it. This project is going to trash parking, screw up access, and REALLY impact the neighborhood with traffic, etc. Where the hell are the alternatives - this is the BEST the boneheads can come up with? God only knows what the sand bars will look like.
