I can't remember the last time October has sucked this badly at the beach. This is usually one of the better months of the year. Not seeing classic fall conditions very much this year.
This October - worst ever?

Was bitchin' the same just a couple of days ago. Bummin' me out. Having said that, this morn was better than expected. Definitely a lot of closeouts but also some really nice waves rolling through on occasion offering fast head high rides. Perspective colored by a 12 hour financial audit hell ride at a client of mine's yesterday. In comparison, this morning offered the most epic conditions everrrrrr.

i would tend to agree, overall, this october has disappointed. surely there have been moments of glory, but not nearly as consistent as I like to believe in. for me, october is defined by warm, glassy, completely clear skied sunset sessions in the SH - HH zone at OB. This year, the afternoon on shores have been relentless, and try as I might, I've only gotten one solid sunset session in Oct. that wasn't cursed by onshores.
It snowed 2' in Tahoe this week so certainly there is a give and take, but all said and done, I would have to agree this has been the least consistent October I have ever been a part of at OB.

There's been some goodness. But more-than-average badness. Winter seems to be showing up early, which is not entirely a bad thing.

Surfers need to be more like farmers in their attitudes toward the weather and conditions. That means thinking long term. Playing the averages. The crop (surf) may be bad this year (it has) but next year may be a bumper crop. That philosophy will serve to improve a surfer's mental health...of course that does nothing to quell our penchant for instant gratification.

I think I remember my first fall on SR filled with "Sloptober" bitching with a brief period of "Slopvember" bitching too :(

I'm with Sharkturd on this. It all averages out. When the weatherman says "above normal" what he really means above the "seasonal average". I remember worse (and better) Fall seasons. (It ain't over yet either) That being said I surfed more than average this month and my personal surf quality rating scale has been reset by the quality of the last couple of weeks, but the windows of opportunity have been small.

I concur, it's been a poor October for waves and weather, with the exception of a few good days.
