Nice find! Is that actual point/peninsula man-made landfill or natural? Do you know?

My scooby sense tells me they scraped the peninsula downhill to create the pad for the foRrrrt. It was probably like Maalaea before that. Left tubes all the way to the buena vista bar.
PS. Check out the righteous bridge from the houses at left to the top level of the Forrt.

"F.P.—Three lighthouses were constructed at F.P. The first, completed in 1853, was never used because it was still waiting for its Fresnel lens when it was torn down three months later to build Fort Winfield Scott. A second lighthouse was built in 1855. A structure built on a narrow ledge between the f.o.r.t and the seawall, it was torn down eight years later when the Army needed to repair the eroding seawall. This photo shows the next structure, built in 1908. The tower was built on the parapet of F.P, and the houses of the three keepers were behind on the bluff, connected by a catwalk. It was deactivated in 1934 when the Golden Gate Bridge was built because the bridge blocked the light. You can see the lighthouse when visiting F.P."

Thanks for tbhe pic, @wg. It reminded me that there is definitely a hill jutting out in to the peninsula so there was almost definitely a natural point there. Really cool. Thanks, @fin & @wg.

You're going to have to come up with a better word than "JERK" to insult someone called sharkturd. It just seems to me there are a few on this site that are always quick to call out the N-word when the truth is they themselves are the most negative...and so much so that they are blind to it. Hurricanewe was merely using fairly humorous and wry surf culture commentary to highlight some version of the oft repeated line, "man, I was surfing here before there was dirt" or "dude, I was surfing here before you were born." I use that same line as needed myself. No, his comment has nothing to do with negativity (unless you're a neg type person) and everything to do with sarcasm....obviously, few are even still alive from that photo dateline...but that apparently escapes you.

it appears that FP was originally a rocky headland; the road and pad for the for the structure appear to have been built by cutting in to the competent rock material comprising the point, which was then side cast as fill material into the bay. one sure fire way to tell , would be to drive to the f0rt (or walk, jog, bike, roll, crawl or whatever) and view the roadcut. a steep roadcut would indicate to me that the material was side cast as fill for construction of the road.

whoa, that is significant. Shiv has been the perenial stokester since, well, forever. Good observation, TT. Looks like Piss got "finned." Not sure how piss "lost his stokin feeling"...perhaps all the crappy surf lately. But congrats to fin...give that man a #1 foam finger.

You might expect someone to throw some spray while you sit on the shoulder. But, I wouldn't expect much more than that.

Great shots. I always love the incidental decent wave shot in a photograph of something else. Too bad every historic OB shot I've seen shows blownout crud. Hmmmm, maybe get a crew dressed up in late 1800 period outfits on a decent day and shoot some old-style photos. Shouldn't be too hard to get a vacant (or at least vacant-looking) background.
Most of this string is proof that surfers go WAAAY downhill when they're out of the lineup for a while. Happens every summer. Where's the stoke?

not sure what all the aggro is. Here we see a black and white photo of an old fort and something that looks likes a point break. Time to be jerks!!!! paddle out has a good idea. Wool sweaters and redwood 12 foot boards. who is in? who has the gear?
