parking ticket at Sloat

Rant - parking ticket at Sloat

I got a parking ticket in the Sahloawt (rhymes with "moat") lot. It was down at the end where a red curb is (I didn't notice it cause someone else had just pulled out from there).

I made a mistake and I will pay it. But it is a federal ticket (US District Court, Central Violations Bureau), I guess since OB is a national park. There is a bunch of mumbo jumbo on the back about how they might report it to the DMV and then I could get points. The officer also did not write "illegally parked" but instead "failure to comply with traffic control device."

Anyone else get one of these? I am trying to find out if it will raise my insurance rates.

ha! kook move! No no, just kidding, that sucks. I'm torn between being angry on your behalf---with the sentiment that the city should not simultaneously ticket a parking lot while allowing half the lot to fall into the ocean---and the competing hope that maybe your $45 will be used to buy a nice round boulder that will eventually be ceremoniously rolled off the lot to "reinforce the shoreline". Then again, 5 years from now, you are likely to curse that very boulder as it dings your board, long after all the sand around it has been washed into the bay to form the great fp sand bar.

on a more helpful note, a while back I got a similar thing (from the park service, as opposed to the city), and successfully contested it, as it was not clearly marked, and a bunch of sand was all but covering the markings. So...maybe if there are some winds tonight, we can all band together and see if we can't convince a little sand dune to obscure the red markings, and then triumphantly document this. best of luck.

I've gotten two tickets at that very spot, one from SFPD and one from the Park Service... paid both.
I am not sure you can get points on you license for a non-moving violation... that being said you might want to check and see what "failure to comply with traffic control device" means, it maybe the equivalent to running a red light which = points.

ugh. i got a ticket on the N end, TWO counts of "failure to observe traffic control device" for running over a parking cone so i could watch ke11y a couple months ago (wooooorth it!). am in the process of contesting it, would recommend contesting via mail since the line to do it in person on Bryant St was unthinkably long and full of bitter, angry clueless people like myself. on the bright side, court date is a good 5 months away and i was told that they often do reduce the fine.

oh and by the way, i think it does count as a moving violation and can cause points on your record. i think that's why they op t for the "failure to comply" instead of a regular parking ticket. f****rs. its pretty clear they are trolling for funds.

How can it count as a moving violation? They have no idea who parked the car. Seems like a total screw job.

This implies that it's actually a moving violation.

I read cyclona's comment really early this morning and, in my sleepy haze, thought to myself "Oh that poor parking cone, it didn't get to see Ke11y win." I think I've been doing one too many dawn patrols.

Follow-up: I just spoke to the clerk at Central Violations Bureau about my ticket (sounds identical to the OP's). They clarified that it's "not a reportable offense" and won't affect my license/points etc...

In summary, (1) the gov't is really desperate for cash, (2) avoid parking at the very end of ###### lot, and (3) if you get one of these, pay it and move on, unless you have lots of free time and/or are looking for opportunities to stand up to the man

@chadical, was your ticket issued by GGNRA? or? i was told that if i just paid it without contesting the two charges were more than $400.
