Forget the pristine blue beaches of Indonesia and Australia. There are great waves just outside your city.
To determine the best urban surfing spots in the U.S., we consulted Matt McClain, a lifelong surfer who works for the Surfrider Foundation, a San Clemente, Calif.-based nonprofit dedicated to protecting the world's oceans. We asked McClain if he ranked his list in any particular order. "Nah," he replied. "My favorite wave is whatever one I'm surfing that day."
