Rare, 319-pound sevengill shark caught in the bay now on display at an S.F. aquarium

Looking to reel in a few good exhibits Thursday morning near Alcatraz, staffers at the Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39 say they hooked a showstopper: a female sevengill shark weighing 319 pounds and stretching almost 10 feet.

The unusually massive sevengill, apparently a fan of the trout bait, was hoisted with specially designed slings onto the aquarium's 32-foot boat - nicknamed "Blue Shark" - and quickly dropped into a giant tank of oxygenated saltwater.

It's super rare!! So we captured it and put in an exhibit at pier 39, and for 16.50 you can see it!! I'm sure they'll kill it on accident.

"They are used to the open ocean. A barrier is kind of a new deal." Uh...really? Lame.
