Great, SF Gate and the Internet, again exposing my secret spot.
That crane is such a wave hog.
i saw the cranes coming in this a.m. while surfing. absolutely bizarre and massive....
They've been sitting off of Drakes for the past 4 days. Must have been Elephant Seal viewing with the rest of the tourists.
The thing that really gives me a rash is that we have to import these cranes from the Orient, when we have the technology and materials to make them in the USA!
I'd drop in on that f'n crane any day..bring it, kooky crane!
Yeah, it was totally rude when Clark Crane shut down all of a sudden. Now we've been flooded with these cranes from China. It's just not the same!
Those aren't the first cranes imported from the "Orient." The other one at least came with instructions that are applicable to surfing: "First learn stand, then learn fly."
@Wave Glider: we have the tech to do that, but we don't have the low labor costs. That sort of big industrial enterprise is relatively low tech in the 21st century and the differentiator for that segment of the economy is cost. Our fabricators are gonna have to stick to products where tech is the differentiator rather than cost (example: deep water oil rigs).
I know, still pisses me off though. Many of our boards are being "popped out" in China. Keeps the cost down, but I won't buy one. Especially the G&S boards sold at Costco. Stay with a local shaper if you can. We have one up here in Sonoma County, Jamie Murray. Go to http://headhighglassy.blogspot.com and check him out.
WHAT??? Costco sells boards? why didn't anyone tell me sooner? Someday when I'm old, fat, and rich, I'll buy all the local shapers a few rounds at the pub. Until then, I must say I'm quite tempted to pick up something at Costco. I don't have $300 to drop on some fancy board that will probably get snapped in the very near future (presumably the dying throes of the season) in some stunt that could be aptly summarized by `raging against the end of the winter surf'. And just think, with some piece of costco shit tied to my foot by a 5/8" leash, I'll never ever be faced with the dilemma of "do i take a 1.5x cookie monster on the head and protect my board, or just bail and let the board fend for itself".
I'm still not quite sure whether I'm kidding or not....
Okay, so I actually checked Costco's surfboard selection online, and they seem to only have a "Maverix" brand funboard for $400, and a longboard that vows to "bring out the soul surfer in you".... despite its hilarity, its not especially tempting.
and a longboard that vows to "bring out the soul surfer in you"
Is this why there are so many longboards up north here? My God, never seen so many peeps on longboards that don't have a bit of etiquette.

WOW, you have something against longboards? Doesn't matter what size board you ride, as ling as you have fun, respect the ocean, and others alongside you. I don't run into that anymore when at the Bo'. But then at my young age(62), maybe all the kooks and groms feel sorry for this OG. BTW, there's never a time when I go out that I don't meet someone new, and have a conversation with them. It's all in your approach.
Here's a pic of me at the Bo', if you see me there, come up and introduce yourself. I don't have that board anymore, but I'll have either my yellow Rusty Quad Swallow Tail, or the Sea Foam Green Harbour Banana. Name's Gary.
Actually, was just at Costco( near ,Bo) and they have a SUP board w/ padde n all for around 450. Have to admit, I'm tempted.
