Shark culling in WA as part of $20 million plan

Shark culling is to be introduced in WA waters this summer as part of the state government’s $20 million plan to prevent more beachgoers being killed by sharks.

After an unprecedented five deaths in the past 12 months, Premier Colin Barnett today announced a $6.85million shark mitigation package for the next four years, that could see a shark killed if it is deemed a threat to beachgoers.

Within the new package $2 million will be spent by the Department of Fisheries to track, catch and kill sharks that could threaten the safety of beachgoers.

Wonder if sharks will vacate areas they're being hunted and stick to non-recreational spots. If 5 people were killed in CA in a year there'd be a whole different attitude than 'sacred' sharks.
