Apparently surfing is Illegal in Dubai. After a incident on Tuesday, surfdubai has created a petition to save local surfing. The incident was described as follows:
"On the morning of Tuesday 24th 2009, Dubai's usual keen surfers paddle out for the fun but small 3 foot surf. The fun was soon interrupted when four police cars and two municipality trucks arrived at the scene with fury! Lights flashing and whistles blowing they proceeded to call everyone out off the water. They then demanded for our driving licenses with no explanation. One of the officers threatened a 14 year old boy (who would not have a license in the first place) that he would be put in prison if he did not hand over his license. After all the commotion, 6 of the surfers were issued fines for, according the officers 'sliding on the waves'"
