“That was probably one of the worst heats for waves I’ve surfed. It was just hideous to try and ride waves. You spend most of the time duck diving and just trying to find ANYTHING that wasn’t a closeout or wasn’t landing on you. You’d be five feet from a good wave, you just can’t get to it. Weird, I’ve seen good waves out there. Like I’m sure if you went on a time frame, a 30-minute time frame, you’d probably be able to go out there and find some good waves. But in 30 minutes you can only get what you can get in front of you. Glad that’s over, that one, for sure.”
So Joel, how were the conditions out there?

That sounds like most of my sessions, but when I actually get one I don't get airs, barrels, and throw 55 gallon drums.

yeah I watched his round two heat on the web and this interview was right after. He came in early with about 4 min remaining and the other guy only needed a 3.5 to take the heat, quite a gamble. It took Parko about 5 min to paddle back out earlier in the same heat. The conditions and current were pretty rough in the afternoon, really challenging and almost night a day to the morn conditions.

This was awesome. My favorite part of yesterday was that OB showed both of her sides. Earlier heats, the pros (incl. Slater) really seemed stoked on the quality and quantity waves. Later in the day, the stoke shifted to bemusement.
