Stokers, help me find the perfect longboard for my wife

Rant - Stokers, help me find the perfect longboard for my wife

My wife has been out of the water a bunch due to some kind of condition that made it hard to lie on her board. She got better after a little baby boy appeared. Now she's ready to shred Bo, SMLM and Santa Cruz this summer.
Here's what she wants based on a custom board she rode down in CR recently.

8' 10" to 9' 4"
very low volume/thickness (most important feature)
narrow rails
nice & wide
big wide nose
medium to low rocker
single fin, probably not a giant noserider fin

A lot of the boards I've looked at are either too big & loggy or too narrow & gunny.
So do you know anyone making low volume longboards out there?

thanks

Stewart makes an LSP that's a very thinlongboard. A friend of mine has one that I've ridden a few times. Compares to the hydro hull on turning and speed, but is super light and thin. Harder to find used than the Hydro Hull but as the HH is 3.5inches thick, it def doesn't match what she's looking for. (I heart mine tho!)

I have a Stewart Hydro Hull and it's a blast!
I saw something like your describing at Mollusk not too long ago.

On a related note:
I wish that I had gone to a shaper earlier because what I thought I wanted and the kind of board that actually gave me the ride I craved were not the same. The shaper helped me dial it in and it was less than the off the shelf cost of some other boards... A number of my friends have Ward Coffey shaped boards (santa cruz) that they love...

I have a nice thin Hobie 8 footer that I ride on occasion. Hobie has, I think, one of the better and more varied selections around. They have a long history shaping really nice longboards. Their longboard selection is here: http://hobie.com/surfboards/boards.aspx

The Fusion Pro model is one of their thinner boards: http://hobie.com/surfboards/board_detail.aspx?BoardId=21&col=1&base=21

The Standard Competitor is more forgiving: http://hobie.com/surfboards/board_detail.aspx?BoardId=35&col=1&base=35

Mitchel Junod. Not only a great local shaper (100% Hand Shape), but also he is the genuine person.

Pearson Arrow. I would put S-Glass Cloth, if they can.

I rode both surfboards. They work excellent in any conditions and will be your go to board. Bill Stewart established himself with a high performance long board. You can go wrong with Stewart. But, if you are going to make a custom board, I believe a local shaper can fine tune your board to NOCAL condition.

While it may be a bit shorter, you might want to consider a board like the 8'3" Arrow that SurferGrrrl (Cynthia) had made off of a board I got for my Wife about a year ago. Cynthia calls it Magic and it gets her a ton of waves. You can read the whole story of it on her blog http://surfergrrrl.blogspot.com/ I know it might be a bit more narrow and gunny for what you described but its a super light board that is really a lot of fun to ride. I have seen Cynthia have some amazing waves on it.

I have 2 amazing 8'0" Eaton zingers: quad fins. Older and a slightly dinged up. But I could part with one at no cost. If you're interested hit me with a private email.

Santa Rosa shaper Jamie Murray makes a model called a "Broadsword" that might fit the bill. He's a super nice guy to boot and writes a wonderful blog with lots of pics of his work. Beautiful stuff: http://headhighglassy.blogspot.com/

I did a little digging on the WWW after reading about your situation I think I found a board that will meet all of your wifes needs and then some.

P.S. If your wife is not a good driver then this might not be the board for her.

@Yah-Guy, nice post. i don't know why a motorized surfboard needs a built in fire extinguisher. i mean, it's in water for god's sake. if it's on fire (which seems insane btw), just flip the piece of crap over. poof. fire's out.

I think that 2 stroke motorized surfboard looks perfect. It will be just the thing to rev up at SMLM on late Sunday mornings. Also, she wouldn't need to get in paddle shape ever again.

Truthfully, you are all so amazing. I am really grateful for all the helpful suggestions and offers. Stoke Report folk rule!

She has an 8ft. Ward Coffey already but it's frustrating when she's not in the water a lot. I love my Stewart Hydrohull so Tracey's suggestion of the LSP is interesting. If that doesn't work, I'll talk to a Michael Junod or Bob Miller.
I'll Stoke Report back!
