Yeah.. a lot of inane, abstract obscurities being thrown around this site lately. I guess it's the crap surf. Not much else to talk about unless people start reporting their "epic" SUP sessions. Ha.
This site is about beach culture when the surf is bad. And the surf is bad. So talk about beach culture. Gals poppin' at the c0ve is part of that. Deal. Also, don't lose your SUPS. Let's talk about not having a stoney blowout and putting your freakin SUP back on your car roof as you roll back to Walnut Creek. Have at it. It's up to you. i'm with cyrus. i'm just a normal guy who likes to read about other normal guys who like to get stoked. that's how this site used to be. but now it's all abnormal. it's like it used to be a healthy organism, but now it's got terminal cancer or something. it makes me real sad. i've been reading this site for a few years now & it's just gotten worse & worse. i don't know - but people seem to be really unhappy. it doesn't seem like surfing is helping them & this site is like a place they go to offgas. it's toxic. i guess i just keep wishing for the good old days, but they're gone forever. why do people always have to kill the beautiful little things?
Sorry you feel that way tiny trim! I'm addicted to this site and get a kick out of it.It's good clean fun. I'm not on fake book or never will be and I feel excepted here..It's better comedy then any show I have seen on the TV

I've been of the opinion that in the last 1.5 years the site has lost something. I liked it better when Chris Wilson was the dark lord and we didn't have ads. But things change. The porn wars were super lame, but they got funny. So there is hope that things turn around. BTW, I enjoy your jokes, mr 'turd. Stay stoked.
While I don't like Pinterest and I can't imagine why anyone would, I find this video to be relevant as to "Why we can't have nice things." Le sigh.

The site has changed over the years but I think for the better. The pinnacle of the stoke on this site seemed to coincide with a lot of complete surfing newbies being on the site. Everyone was politically correct, overly positive and seemed to live in a bizarro surf world. Now the site seems to be generally positive overall which I like, lately a select few have been overly negative but you can tell they are doing it just to be dicks. As Sticker pointed out if you read other surf site/forums (e.g. surfer mag forum, which I read daily) they are generally fill with venomous comments and a bunch of internet tough guys. People around here seem carry themselves in a fairly legitimate manner not as some internet alter ego.
Totally agree. I don't even check most other sites because they're such a cess pool of comments. Aaah, perspective.
Well....before I was going to post this kind of thing....decided not to, and now I decided to.....but in a very terse and summarizing fashion....
I think in the 'beginning' the site was a bunch of surf people (yes mostly new, I guess including my kook self) disclosing their surf adventures and giving away their location turtles. Then the angry locals got mad as hell; understandably. Then, a moral code was written and all agreed upon, and we agreed to making things nebulous when posting about conditions, and only use the site conditions posting as kind of an after surf high 5. However, in doing that...the site reached a second phase: that we're in now. I call this the age of serious jackassery. Instead of posting the particulars about the surf and all the content related to that specifically, more extra curricular content makes it in, and it's what we have today! What exactly do we have today? In my mind there's a few classifications of material.
1) Local outerlands serious pants related news (I.E. master plan links, Devils Tooth opens!, Java Beach owners get new cafe, methheads steal copper pipes at the sewage plant)
2) Off-site surfporn (chyooooowwwwps is going auffff)
3) Local jackassery slash Outer Lands culture (Taking and posting pictures of cray cray shit like that gal in da 'kini at da c0ve. FLBL For Locals By Locals)
4) Surf reports (notice how right now the conditions make this last in terms of frequency/importance :) )
5) Classifieds. Nice addition in my opinion.
So I think the site now acts as more of a community magnet for all those things, and affords local Bay Area surfers a spot to comment on **all** those things, not just the surf conditions. It's a great place to gather, watch people be humorous, and have a not so serious, but seriously fun time.
So post, comment and find your own voice! It will be heard! Or at least maybe chuckled at :)

Nice clip, it really captures the SFOB winter spirit. Total respect for those guys. I have lived here 30 years and never had the nuts to go out on those days. Got as far as my shins once, and my feet refused to go any further... Perhaps that is why I am still breathing.
nice surfing, and nice video production, but whats up with the SF locals only stuff? this place aint exactly a surf destination, LOL! Besides, I grew up here, but I don't personally know anybody in the lineup at SF, nor do I care to. I usually surf alone, and I surf when I feel like it. Everyone I've met has usually been very nice, so I just don't get the references to locals only. The few people who try to claim it in the water are just skating on thin ice, if you ask me, cause its only by the grace of other people's patience that they continue to exist. Anyway, why feature it in a video? I also don't diss women, but i see casually sexist attitudes by males on this site all the damn time - its ubiquitous - (not only in one of the vids, but also from various commentators here at different times). can someone explain please? is it all part and parcel of trying to look cool by appearing arrogant? I can tell you, you don't have to be arrogant or sexist to get laid, if that's what it's about. How do you define sexist? I really have not seen to many posts were people have stated women are inferior simply because they are women. Is the picture of the fat chick at the top of this thread sexist or is it simply funny (or is it fatist)? Is the video of the chick dancing sexist? Are people really being sexist or are they make crude joke that you find offensive? Call me unenlightened but I personally love dick and fart jokes so I like crude stuff. Is appreciating the opposite sexes (or same sexes, not that there is anything wrong with that) level of sexual attractiveness wrong or does it just come naturally to humans? @futuresparky are you referring to people using such terms as "i never had the nuts to go on those day" as sexist? Testosterone which is produced in a man's "nuts" (aka testes) plays a major factor in risk taking so when one states "I don't have the nuts to do that" they are saying their testicles are not large enough to produce the required amount to testosterone to surf waves of that magnitude.
As for getting laid, you don't have to be an arrogant selfish a-hole to get laid but it does help (by the way I'm a nice guy). When you are arrogant you are basically say I'm better then the rest of you and women pick up on that. I have no clue why a decent amount of women fall for the arrogant thing but they do.
@ yahguy. thank you for the feedback; i appreciate your opinion. i should have pointed out some examples to be clear. look up some comments by Mr. Milton, for example. you can look at how we objectify women on this site. re-watch that video posted, and pick out the way women are glossed over as simply being wallpaper for the guys, pick out some of the offensive language. I think of it like this - if i were a woman, how would i feel? i think consistently depicting the other half of humanity as simply decorations for mens enjoyment makes us surfers look really pathetically shallow.
But again - what's up with the locals only stuff? I see milton posting about it (which may mean nothing), but i also see it popping up as imagery in wilson's videos (which also may mean nothing). is this really a phenomenon around here? if so, it would seem really childish. any feedback on that?

everyone is entitled to their opinion. i am the same as all of you and being an SF local is something i cherish dearly. I am proud of that so i put a couple images in there that reference my stoke! after all they are only images placed in sequence timed to music. its funny how it makes people all crazy like! anyone else have any questions?
