The surf is crap, and probably will be for a while. But there is still a chance to stay fit for surfing, so you are ready for when the magic returns. I found out about a free training class on Saturday mornings at 8am at the main parking lot of Chrissy Field and have been going for the last few weeks. I'm about to embark upon a road trip for the next few weeks and will miss the next few, but I highly recommend it as a great way to stay fit for surfing and to have some fun. I wrote up a big review of the program, called Motive Ocean, which you can find at the link below. Thought it was worth sharing.

Is this real? You mean I can drive down to the Marina and learn how to be a surfer? I want to say to each their own, but this is such a joke. Come on big wave Mark............

@the beard, no you can drive down to the Marina, go to the Safeway, and pick up some melons.
However, I'd suggest you shave first. No one likes that rough trade just out of prison look there at the Safeway. Have a nice troll/day :).

Hmmm? Is somebody sensitive about the Marina. or is that you don't like facial hair?
Either way, I must repeat myself that I personally feel that a "surf fitness" class is a joke and a scam. Sorry to offend.

Ok, I'll bite.
On what pretense is surf fitness class a joke and a scam?
Would you care to elaborate with some empirical data.
Perhaps you could pull your notes from your bushy beard :D
I'm just playing devil's advocate because deep down inside, all the things you need to surf and be in shape are all around you and specifically NOT in the gym or a field with an instructor. But I would however, still like a full beard write up.

There is no empirical data here. Either you can surf or you can't and as you said, all you need to learn how to surf is to go surfing. I see this as a scam in the sense that folks who can't surf will sign up for this when in reality they should just be surfing in all conditions, that is how you get better. If you feel this might be time well spent, then you go to it. I might just be at Safeway picking up some melons.

Yeah, I got the message it was a "stay in shape for surf", not a "learn to surf by working out" kind of class. Sort of like how climbing stairs in the off season will keep your legs from wilting in the summer when you can't ski.
