Planning a surf vacation for next year, and I'm having a hard time narrowing down the destination.
Intermediate. Longboard. Solo lady traveller. Moderate budget. Looking for a relatively quiet but safe area + none of this pink yoga princess bullshit.
The running list seems to be:
Costa Rica
Portugal
Morocco
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Check out La Saladita Beach. It's about 40 minutes north of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. Good mellow point break and not to crowded or expensive. We stayed here: http://www.houseofwaves.net

Saladita is a great long-board wave.
depending on budget. namotu in fiji is wikkid for longboards - not cheap, but big fun, and they're not as booked as they used to be coz their exclusivity got taken away.
of course, pacific coast of costa rica pretty much all the way down from tamarindo.
if you dont mind cold water, peru and chile are great april/may, and a little less "pink yoga princess" than costa rica :-)

check out Witch's Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Highly recommended. I went July 2009 for 5 days (stopping over on my return leg from Brazil) and I absolutely loved it. Very chill vibe, great/humble/lowkey place, and awesome waves right out the door. I went back 3 months later for a full week. PM me if you want any more info.
Also FWIW, there were solo female surfers at the camp both times I visited ... and they seemed happy / comfortable / safe /etc.
Sweet, thanks. I think I am leaning toward Costa Rica, Morocco, [or Australia if I can get some freelance work going]. We'll see. I'll send you guys some notes. I am not the type to spill secrets. :)
I'd love to see Portugal, but I've already been to France and Spain in '04. Time to see some other continents...
