Surf with Your Shoes On?

2599

Garage Shaper Writes: I recently got in touch with our friends at Virbam to learn more about their Five Finger shoes and to see how they would hold up surfing. They sent us a pair of their KSO’s which are one of their most popular models and I was happy to put them to the test.

Okay...but why no mention of how they are to put on when wet. Regular booties are bad enough, surely these must be worse. Also, I'm a bit surprised a surf company hasn't come out with these before, given their penchant for peddling anything they think the "modern" surfer must have. These things might be warmer and better for surfing if they at least covered the lower ankle like most most booties do.

They look like a really nice accent to a spring suit. Perhaps with some webbed gloves thrown in for flair?

They would definitely increase my math skills while in the water.

Let me know when a real surf site posts a review of these things.

For what it's worth I've been using vibram soled approach shoes for whitewater kayaking for years. We like to call the mossy, brown, smooth granite at the waterline "Cum on a wet gold tooth" b/c it's so slippery. And Vibram rubber does great on that stuff. So I'd be really surprised it it failed on a well waxed surf board.

Maybe theextremescene.com or dailystoke.com can do a piece on them. Would that qualify?

Possibly TES is jealous cuz he didn't get a free pair :(
I think TES should get a free pair and blog the results.
I'm kinda still chucklin at the notion of doing jazz hands.

I wore those for a few months of jogging. When I went into the shallows, my feet got real cold. They're fine, but they don't do the work of a bootie.

I know warm water surfing makes you not want to wear boots, and you lose that 'connected' feeling...but wearing something could be better than nothing.
Having recently sustained an injury from going over an 8foot balcony with @uuilly (he took the right fire escape, I took the left), I hit and dinged my foot on the bottom of my board. If I was barefoot, it probably would have hurt more.
My point is wear something...whether it's these things, or boots.

the other good thing about wearing warm water footwear is it saves your ass from stingrays
