At 9:50 this morning, onlookers spotted a man floating face down next to a surfboard in Newport Beach. According to local surf photographer Tom Cozad, "lifeguards responded and quickly pulled the victim aboard a Harbor Patrol boat and transported him to the Newport Pier, where firefighters and paramedics transported the victim to the hospital. "Word is he was pulseless, and not breathing when pulled from the water." The surfer was confirmed dead at the hospital. As of press time, the man remains unidentified, 35-40 years old with a wedding band.
