Could they go ahead and rescue my distressed assets as well?

They are highly toxic.

Sounds like he wasn't having much fun. Also, if I'm not mistaken...they *may* cost him :(
Not that money is an object when you really need that kind of help.
Just sayin :(

Leash breaking is definitely a hazard that you don't think about much when you're out there dealing with all of the other hazards. The one time my leash snapped it was so disorienting to come up to the surface without my board. And then came the swim...

That guy was fortunate to have someone attentive on the beach.

Know your limits... another half hour and they would have never found him in the pitch black dark.

I had a leash break on a HH day at OB and it was a bit freaky at first. Forced myself to remain calm and slowly, but deliberately, swam/body-floundered in...Having it break at dusk would be very freaky in big surf.

I happened to be on a run down the coast (there's a very nice trail that starts at the Jetty) and saw the whole ordeal. At the time, I did not know what was happening. The whole cavalry came: several fire trucks, cop cars, coast guard. It was pretty dark already. The surf was shyte, as it usually is in that stretch. I thought that it probably was a pedestrian that got sucked out, not a surfer.

Broken leash + outer bar = no fun. I've had that happen at least three times, and it blows.
