I was just talking to a friend about people getting rescued there... Why dont they just swim/paddle around Seal Rock and get out of the water at Sutro Baths or further down on the way to the bridge. What's the problem?

I have done this, on a dawn so foggy I couldn't see the beach. I only realized where I was there because suddenly I could see the backside of the rocks. It was a pretty sizable day for it to seem reasonable to be that far out. Paddled in, it was somewhat more sheltered in there, still big, but navigable. I did get a small strip of sand to get out and get up the rocks. Its not ideal but not a hard landing to make, and seemed way easier that trying to land on the rocks. Much better than seeing the bridge. I had a board though, might have been less thrilled swimming the whole thing. First time I ever saw Sutro Baths, very cool. Climbed up walked around the cliff house, got back in. I've been careful about avoiding a repeat though.

I think its just safest and best for everyone to avoid going in the water when the surf is good. Tha would solve a lot of issues..
